Roots tourism protagonist at the Buchmesse in Frankfurt

(ANSA) – ROME, OCTOBER 22 – Roots tourism was the protagonist at the Buchmesse in Frankfurt. In the heart of the square designed by Stefano Boeri Interiors, the stories of second and third generation Italians who decide to visit their families’ places of origin were told. The occasion was the meeting “There and back: roots tourism” which was held as part of the literary program of Italia Ospite d’Onore. During the panel, moderated by Ilaria Bianchi, the scholar Riccardo Giumelli and the general director for Italians Abroad of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Maeci), Luigi Maria Vignali, discussed the importance of roots tourism, a phenomenon that does not it has only economic value but presents an unrepeatable cultural opportunity for our country. During the event, some videos created by the Farnesina were also screened with the aim of promoting the Italea project, a program to promote roots tourism, launched by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation within the Pnrr. There was a large participation of the public who also appreciated the copies of the volumes “Guide to Italian roots” and the comic “Under the same sky” drawn by Simona Binni. In Italy’s year as Guest of Honor at the Buchmesse, the meeting allowed international visitors to the fair to learn about Maeci’s activities aimed at strengthening the bond of Italian descendants with their land.
