Navalnaya, ‘I will run for president in Russia after Putin’

(ANSA) – ROME, OCTOBER 21 – The exiled widow of the late Russian opposition leader Aleksei Navalny, Yulia Navalnaya, intends to present herself as a candidate in the country’s presidential elections when the Putin era is over: Navalnaya herself said this in an interview with the BBC, reports the British broadcaster on its website. Navalnaya was included last July in the list of “terrorists and extremists” and knows that she risks arrest if she returns to her homeland while President Putin is still in power, the BBC recalls, underlining that Moscow’s threat is not an empty threat . Her husband, President Putin’s most vocal critic, was sentenced to 19 years for extremism – charges considered politically motivated – and died last February in a penal colony in the Arctic Circle. When the time comes, “I will participate in the elections… as a candidate,” she said during the interview in London. “My political opponent is Vladimir Putin. And I will do everything to bring down his regime as soon as possible,” he added. (HANDLE).
