FC Bayern Munich, News: Alexander Nübel talks about Neuer’s successor
Will Manuel Neuer extend his contract with FC Bayern Munich, which expires in 2025, or will the keeper leave the German record champions at the end of the season? If the latter scenario occurs, FCB will probably have already put together a list of possible successors.
It says loudly SZ for example the names of Jonas Urbig from 1. FC Köln, Gregor Kobel from Borussia Dortmund, Bart Verbruggen from Brighton & Hove Albion and Mike Maignan from AC Milan. However, the top favorite to succeed Neuer is Alexander Nübel, who Bayern has currently loaned out to VfB Stuttgart.
“We will talk about it calmly. We will talk about the facts in due course. We will see how we decide, what Manu decides and what happens next,” said FCB sports director Max Eberl on Saturday evening Sky about the goalkeeping situation. “The contract with Nübel has been extended, he played an outstanding last season in Stuttgart and is now completing his next season. The fact that Alex is a German national goalkeeper says it all,” said Eberl.
Nübel himself also commented on his future after the 4-0 defeat with VfB in Munich on Saturday evening, remaining reserved: “I’m on loan to VfB, I feel good and want to collect my games. Whatever comes after that, I’m there I feel relatively relaxed, we’ll see everything else,” said the 28-year-old, whose loan to Stuttgart runs until 2026. His contract with Bayern runs until 2029.
Meanwhile, Stuttgart’s CEO Alexander Wehrle said: “We have him under contract this season and next. We will sit down with Bayern in the spring. As long as Alexander plays for us, it’s good for VfB. He has proven why with us he was nominated for the national team.”
