Bad weather in Italy, orange alert in five regions

Based on the available forecasts, the Department of Civil Protection in agreement with the regions involved – which is responsible for activating the civil protection systems in the territories concerned – yesterday issued a further warning of adverse weather conditions, which extends the previous one. From the early hours of today, Sunday 20 October, the warning predicts the persistence of scattered to widespread rainfall, including showers or thunderstorms, over Campania, Puglia, Basilicata and Calabria, in particular in the Ionian sectors. The phenomena will be accompanied by heavy showers, frequent electrical activity and strong gusts of wind. On the basis of the ongoing and expected phenomena, an orange alert has been assessed for today in southern and Ionian Calabria, in a large part of Emilia-Romagna, in large sectors of Veneto and Basilicata and in the south-eastern sectors of Lombardy. Yellow alert on Campania, Puglia, Abruzzo, Molise and on sectors of Marche, Calabria, Basilicata, Tuscany, Emilia-Romagna, Piedmont, Lombardy, Veneto and the autonomous province of Bolzano.
