So that not everyone who gets their hands on your unlocked smartphone can also read your WhatsApp chats, the messenger has for some time now offered the option of protecting access to the app through biometric authentication.
With the Chatsperre You can provide additional protection for particularly confidential messages.
Whatsapp: Secret codes now make your chats invisible
It provides individual chats with a biometric lock, thereby preventing unauthorized access to very private messages, photos and videos. This can be useful if you want to avoid unpleasant situations with family or friends.
The chats are only unlocked after special authentication using fingerprint or facial recognition.
1. Chat blocking in Settings
You activate the protection in the Whatsapp settings under “Data protection” in the “App lock” menu item.
2. Select Chat
Open the chat you want to protect. Now tap on the contact name or the group name at the top.
3. Activate chat blocking
Then activate the switch behind “Chat lock” (Android) or “Block chat” (iOS).
Whatsapp: You should definitely adjust these data protection settings
4. Confirm note
In the following step, confirm the note about how the chat block works by clicking “Next”.
5. Set up biometric protection
Next, confirm the biometric access protection available on your smartphone.
6. Done!
You have now successfully activated the lock for this chat. You will then find blocked chats at the top of the chat overview in the “Blocked Chats” folder.
7. Test access
To test, select a locked chat and confirm access with your fingerprint or facial scan.
Turn off chat lock
If you no longer need separate access protection for a chat, you can easily deactivate the chat lock.
Open the chat and tap the contact or group name at the top. Scroll down and turn off the switch behind “Chat Lock” or “Block Chat” – that’s it!
