The eleven teachers were suspended at the request of the general director of the Montreal School Service Center, Isabelle Gélinas, who made the announcement Saturday evening in a press release.

“This unprecedented gesture aims to restore, as quickly as possible, a healthy and safe environment for Bedford students and the entire educational community,” reported the CSSDM.

Ms. Gélinas asked the management of the establishment to immediately suspend the teachers concerned and the educational services of the primary school will be reorganized from Monday.

She made this decision as soon as she learned, Thursday evening, the identity of the teachers accused of having established a toxic climate within the school, raising concerns about the physical and psychological safety of students. An investigation was launched to shed light on these allegations.

Support is already planned for Bedford students and substitute teachers have been appointed.

Investigation work in progress

The Montreal School Service Center (CSSDM) specifies that the suspensions will remain in effect during “the entire duration of the work of the investigative committees mandated by the Minister of Education”.

The Minister responsible for Education, Bernard Drainville, also specified that these investigative committees will determine whether the teaching certificate of the people concerned will be maintained or not, in a publication X, distributed Saturday evening. He also affirmed to take note of the decision of the CCSDM.

The committees must therefore determine whether the 11 teachers in question “committed serious misconduct or an act derogatory to the honor or dignity of the teaching profession in the exercise of their duties”, we can also read in the press release. of the CSSDM.

Marwah Rizqy, Liberal MP and official opposition education spokesperson, also shared the press release on her X account late Saturday evening. The “CSS of Montreal finally suspends the 11 teachers”, we can read there.

Three other establishments have been targeted by ministerial investigations since the investigation into Bedford Primary School was launched.
