NOS newstoday, 6:35 p.m

Filler and Botox treatments are more popular than ever: in the last three years, the number of treatments in the Netherlands has doubled, according to a study. research from the Erasmus MC Rotterdam. According to cosmetic doctor and Erasmus MC researcher Tom Decates, social media plays an important role in the increase in the number of procedures. For example, TikTok and Instagram are full of inspiration and experiences.

Only people who have completed medical training and have BIG registration are allowed to inject fillers and botox. But there are also people who do this without authority. Although, according to Decates, things go well in most cases, mistakes are regularly made – especially by people who have not been trained for this at all. But things seem to go wrong sometimes at famous clinics.

We spoke to three people about their bad experience.

Melle van Rooijen (25)

Melle van Rooijen has been organizing medical trips to Turkey for six years, because he believes it is important that people are guided safely. He had a bad experience himself.

“When I was just eighteen, I came into contact with a famous clinic in the Netherlands at the time,” he said. “The doctor offered me free lip fillers in exchange for promotion on my social media channels. I thought that was good, of course, especially at that age. The doctor told me that there is a filling that lasts a long time, many famous. Dutch people used it too.

“Years later I noticed that everyone’s lip fillers disappear after a few months to years, and for me it hasn’t diminished. I like the extreme, but not this the view I want to go more.”

“Some time ago I spoke to my current doctor from Turkey, with whom I work on medical tours. He thought it was strange that my fillers weren’t diluting and I checked the injections. It turned out that illegal silicone fillers had been inserted. my lips, which has been forbidden for years.

“My doctor says it’s smart, because it can move inside my body. But I’m not ready for it yet. I should have researched and informed myself better at the time.”

Black Lana (24)

Lana Zwart has undergone several cosmetic procedures in recent years. Most went well, one didn’t.

“In 2019, I went to a famous Russian lip filler technique clinic. Although I was confident that it was correct due to their name recognition, I asked that doctor if she was sure she could apply this method. been to that clinic more often I have been a doctor for other treatments and I was satisfied with that.”

“When the doctor introduced the fillers, I was not at all satisfied. It was not what I expected. A few months later I went to another doctor. She was surprised because it seemed to the filler was injected in the wrong skin. Allowing the filler to spread would cause me a lot of pain, so she advised me to massage it in the hope that it would go away.”

“I felt really bad. The massage didn’t work well, I waited years for it to go down on its own and then let it resolve itself. Since then I’ve been fine careful before I decide which doctor to do something. I do better research and I want to see other people’s pictures and experiences before I start anything I’ve learned.”
