PS5 Pro could be the best console for multi-platform games with bad PC ports

The PlayStation 5 Pro could be the best platform for running multi-platform titles that suffer from problems on PC, such as low image quality when using upscalers and performance issues including freezing and stuttering.

In the latest episode of the Digital Foundry Podcast, tech experts discussed Sony’s upcoming console update, noting that the PlayStation 5 Pro could be a “top choice” for games that don’t run fine on PC. This is possible thanks to the new PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) upscaler, which will likely be used in most games instead of AMD FSR.

The only exception would be in situations that require high refresh rates, such as 120Hz modes, where performance may be a priority. Since games with shader pooling issues (PSO) on PC often run better on consoles, the PlayStation 5 Pro could be the perfect solution for those who have such problems when playing on it PC, especially if the console provides consistent performance.

PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution is expected to be a major breakthrough for the PlayStation 5 Pro. For example, in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, where the image quality in performance mode on the basic version of the console leaves much to be desired, PSSR significantly improves the image, making it much more sharpness, creating a feeling of “raising the image of blur.”

PS5 Pro will be released on November 7.
