Martial arts: Grandmaster Andreas Held and the Viennese vision of taekwondo

Taekwondo grandmaster Andreas Held founded his martial arts-focused company in Vienna in 2003. Over a period of 20 years, his company continued to develop and expand, but the focus on traditional Taekwondo was not lost sight of.

VIENNA. Bavarian Andreas Held, born in 1974, began practicing traditional Taekwondo at the age of 18. To date, he has achieved the sixth highest level of black belt and completed a degree in sports science, in which he wrote his dissertation on the subject of “Traditional Taekwondo”.

The company, whose fortunes are controlled from Vienna, has now developed into a family project. Several of his daughters also actively practice the sport and pass it on to students beyond the city limits.

Sport my Vision

“It allows you to continue to grow. Of course our students learn to defend themselves, but the main aspects are health, fitness and, above all, the development of their own personality,” says Held. His goal is: “To make this wonderful development accessible to as many people as possible around the world – as a contribution to solving all conflicts and problems.”

According to the company, traditional Taekwondo focuses not just on the sport itself, but on the promotion and development of personality as well as mental and physical health. For this reason, the courses offered are aimed primarily at children, young people and families, as this target group also promotes discipline, respect and self-confidence.

Taekwondo as an international product

The company has continued to develop over its 20 years and began expanding after just a short time. At the moment, Young-Ung Taekwondo Gmbh operates 28 locations as well as its own trainer academy and teaches more than 3,500 people with the help of around 100 trainers.

In 2024, the company also opened its first location in Dubai and a resort on the coast of Kenya, with a focus on on-site Taekwondo training. In the same year the first franchise partner started in Baden near Vienna.
