The first touch of Christmas has arrived in Bochum city center: The “Flying Santa Claus” Falko Traber has “parked” the sleigh with Rudolph and the other reindeer on the Sparkasse Bochum building. At the Bochum Christmas market from November 21st to December 23rd, he will once again float over Dr.-Ruer-Platz every day as part of his show. The first activities of the Christmas market can now be booked: the curling rink, the flea market hut and guided tours of the medieval market around the St. Paul’s Church.
The curling rink on the boulevard in front of “Mutter Wittig” has been one of the attractions at the Bochum Christmas market for many years. Groups of up to eight people can try out the popular popular sport from the Alpine region together on the 14 meter long track made of synthetic artificial ice sheets – whether with family, friends or at a Christmas party. Each game lasts 90 minutes; all you have to do is book the train in advance and present the confirmation to the staff at the neighboring “Alte Liebe” mulled wine stand in the historic double-decker bus. The curling rink is open during the core opening hours of the Christmas market from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. (except Sunday of the Dead). Depending on the time and day of the week, the prices are between 50 and 70 euros for a 90-minute train reservation including game materials. Booking is now possible online at https://bochumer-weihnacht.de/eisstockschiessen. The official rules for the game are also stored there.
Flea market hut
The flea market hut was introduced at the Christmas market in 2022 and has stood the test of time ever since. There will be a flea market hut again this year. Some reservations have already been received, but booking is still possible on many days. In the flea market hut, which will again be located on Huestrasse, private individuals can book a stand at the Christmas market on a daily basis to offer high-quality used goods. The search is primarily for Christmas decorations, jewelry and music, but also collectibles, antiques, gift items, winter clothing and children’s toys. With the concept, Bochum Marketing wants to promote the idea of sustainability in the sense of second hand. Under The application form can be found, which must be filled out and sent to [email protected]. Prices range between 25 and 30 euros, depending on the day of the week. At best, interested parties should specify several dates to choose from and include a photo of the goods to be offered. Anyone who books the flea market hut should plan to be there during the opening hours of the Christmas market from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Guided tours

For a total of 45 minutes, a tour guide in medieval clothing and appropriate language will guide you through the historical hustle and bustle around St. Paul’s Church. To round off the tour, mulled wine or grape punch can be booked directly. The Christmas tour can be booked individually for groups of a maximum of 30 people. The price per group is 90 euros. Booking inquiries can be made by telephone on 0234 9049630 or by email to [email protected].
