Despite the skepticism of customers in the German market, the number of electric drive vehicles is increasing in other major markets, with a very fast pace in China.
According to statistics from the Center for Automotive Management (CAM), China will register 4.1 million fully electric vehicles (BEVs) in the first three quarters of 2024. This is 18 percent more than the same period last year, reaching a share of 27 percent of all vehicles registered in China this year.
The US has almost 950,000 new registrations, registering an increase of 8 percent, but also the BEV segment is only eight percent of the total number of vehicles.
Germany, Great Britain and France are the biggest electric car markets in Europe, with less than 800,000 new cars registered.
In Germany, the market decreased by 29 percent and the BEV quota fell to 13.1 percent. On the other hand, Great Britain was able to increase its BEV registrations by 13 percent and increase its BEV market share to 18 percent. With 270,000 new registrations, the UK is expected to overtake Germany with around 276,000 new electric car registrations. France was also able to improve its position, increasing this sector by 6 percent and the BEV market share to 17 percent.
Individually, Tesla did the best – 1.29 million were sold, which is 2.4 percent less than last year. The strongest competitor is BYD in China, whose sales rose 11.5 percent to 1.17 million BEV.
In third place is the Volkswagen Group. Sales fell 4.6 percent to 506,500 electric vehicles worldwide, but as deliveries of other drivetrains fell, BEV’s share remained roughly the same as last year at around 8 percent.
