Mexicali, BC. The Tijuana Interzona Festival is a citizen initiative of Tijuana Esplandián, which has the support of the Secretariat of Culture of Baja California, Erizo Media, My Media Orange, La Maquila, Estación Cultural and El Centro Cultural Tijuana, among others.
The tribute to Franz Kafka is carried out on the centenary of his death. In addition, a work by artist Lizardo Hernández will be unveiled at La Maquila, Estación Cultural.
The first day, scheduled for the afternoon of Friday, October 25, will close with the Fémina suite concert by Clarisa Brassea, Sol Flores, Zara Gilbert and Luna Mondragón, while the multidisciplinary artist Úrsula Tania will give her lecture-show about Queen Calafia.
The border festival also included the film premieres Kumeyaay land, by Dylan Verrechia and State of silence, by Santiago Maza, in which there will be analysis tables and a forum for exchanging opinions with the filmmakers in the Carlos Monsiváis room of the CECUT.
The exhibition “Imaginería” was also programmed. Looks behind the crack”, which includes a screening of the documentaries Extinción de laspecies, directed by Matthew Porterfield and Nicolasa Ruiz, Norte (2022) and Apnea (2023), by Natalia Bermúdez from Tijuana, curated by Yadira Gutiérrez and collaboration with the Cinematographic Training Center. As well as a selection of animated shorts in collaboration with La Matatena.
Regarding literary activities, Glimpses of the cultural sector, by Eduardo Cruz Vázquez, will be presented; The cave paintings of Baja California, by Enrique García Sánchez; Poetry in motion, from the collective Tomorrow it will rain; the Analog Collage Poetry workshops, by the writer Melissa Sánchez, and It’s his turn, by Juan Carlos Rea.
There will be a concert by Chilean Cristóbal Briceño, accompanied by Olas Altas and Carolina en Llamas, in coordination with Erizo Media.
The closing of the Festival will be with the Spinetta/Artaud Tribute concert with the purpose of paying tribute to Pescado Rabioso’s masterpiece, which revolutionized Latin American rock for its poetics and sound experimentation.
