Saharan dust, alarm in Campania

Starting yesterday theHarp Campania is following the effects of the notable influx of Saharan dust underway in the regional territory, a phenomenon that involves “significant repercussions on air quality“. Arpa Campania is able to detect, hour by hour, the effects of events, both natural and anthropic, which lead to a significant alteration of air quality, thanks to the hourly measurements of the specific monitoring network and to the measurement and meteorological modeling. The increase in concentrations of PM10 determined by the arrival of dust of African origin.

The measurements

The instruments managed by Arpac have measured, starting from yesterday morning, increases in hourly concentrations favored by weather and climate conditions characterized by the presence of ventilation from the southern quadrants. As a result, yesterday there was a scenario of widespread exceeding of the daily limit of 50 micrograms per cubic meterwhich affected, among other things, the capitals Napoli, Caserta, Salerno, Avellino, Benevento and the basin Aversana-Nolana-Acerrana.
