Querétaro, Qro. The municipal president of Querétaro, Felifer Macías, accompanied by Daniela Salgado, presented the program of the Day of the Dead Festival, an event that will seek to preserve Querétaro traditions and provide a space for local artists.
The festival will take place from October 30 to November 3 in Alameda Hidalgo and in various spaces in the city, such as houses, cultural centers and libraries, from October 25 to November 2. More than 200 local artists and 15 cultural groups will be part of this great celebration.
The festival will have activities in the Guerrero Garden, the Historic Center Delegation, the Municipal Palace and the Andador Madero. Macías highlighted that the objective is to recover public spaces so that Querétaro families can enjoy cultural shows organized by the Ministry of Culture, benefiting more than 50 thousand people.
The event not only seeks to preserve Querétaro traditions, but also pay tribute to emblematic figures such as Pilar Vega, teacher and reference in puppets and marionettes, to whom the altar of the dead will be dedicated. In addition, four murals will be painted in the traditional neighborhoods of La Cruz, San Francisquito, El Tepe and Santa Catarina, representing iconic characters from these areas.
Activities include the famous representation of Catrina by Erik de Luna, family workshops, children’s makeup, music and dance, as well as the accompaniment of 12 mojigangas who will tour the neighborhoods.
The festival will not only revitalize local culture, but will also generate an economic benefit estimated at 154 million pesos, contributing to the economic and social development of Querétaro. The activities will be extended to the seven delegations of the municipality, with workshops and altars for the dead in each of them.
