Signal Messenger introduces call links

Call links can now also be created and sent via Signal Messenger, as is already the case with services such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams. Up to 50 people can take part in a video conference via such a link.

What’s new is that the participants don’t have to be in a common group – as was previously the case with group calls in Signal. The call link does not expire and can be used multiple times. However, whoever created it can delete it at any time. If it is no longer used for 90 days, the link expires.

The call link function is available in the current version of Signal (Android 7.21, iOS 7.34, Desktop 7.30) and will soon be rolled out to all Signal users, the messenger said. The links can be created in the call tab at the bottom of the screen – under “Create a call link”. You can also give them names, for example “Weekly Team Meeting”.

Focus on data economy

Signal is an encrypted messenger with a focus on data economy that is available free of charge for smartphones with Android and iOS. Clients for macOS, Windows and Linux are available for computers. editor is the Signal Foundation based in the USA, which is financed by donations and works not for profit.
