SYRIZA and Kasselakis in the trenches – Will he reach the conference or not? –

The current majority of SYRIZA puts a brake on any plans of Stefanos Kasselakis to overturn the rejection decision of the Central Committee with a vehicle at the congress on November 8-10.

A few hours after the appearance of St. Kasselakis and his new intervention on the occasion of his exclusion from the presidential race, in which he speaks of a “minority” and calls on his supporters to become “a great wave of democracy that will sweep all mechanisms”, Koumoundourou sent her own clear message.

Responding in a statement to the former president’s challenges, he described Saturday’s decision as “immediately applicable and irreversible”.

He pointed out in every direction that it was a decision that was “taken by an overwhelming majority”, as “the body met with a confirmed quorum, despite the substitute and unacceptable actions, which proved unsuccessful”.

The opposing front is solid

There had already been several placements of central executives. One of them Olga Gerovasilis who wondered how “is it possible that they want you as president in a party whose functions and executives you do not respect. But also of Kostas Zachariadis (“a party has the right to defend itself”).

The candidate presidents of SYRIZA, who argued in favor of the opinion that St. Kasselakis cannot be a candidate and that he was well excluded.

“This decision should not be changed”

Sokratis Famellos said in his radio interview (Parapolitika) that “the decision that was taken on Saturday is the response of a family to actions that were absolutely inconsistent with what is our common identity”.

He also argued that “this decision should not be changed”, since “it is a justified decision”.

“I cannot blame the members and executives of SYRIZA because they try to respect the rules, the identity and the existence of this party. It is not anti-democratic when the rules are followed” concluded Mr. Famellos.

“Crying and feeling defeated”

For his part, MEP Nikolas Faradouris, accusing St. Kasselakis for “apolitical defense of the huge EGO, with tears and spiteful defeatism” pointed out meaningfully that “a leader when he wants to multiply does not divide”.

“When he wants to unite he does not divide. The leader must have the ability to synthesize. A leader who cannot compose is simply not a leader,” he explained later.

“What is the fuzzy ‘unmediated relationship of members’?” What does this mean practically?’ he asked next.

As he claimed, “it didn’t work anywhere. There was no political proposal. No instrument worked. Was it a need for unmediated unilateral admiration after all?”

Kasselakis’ actions against “Stalinist announcements”

In this climate of extreme polarization, St. Kasselakis, who needs to assess his next steps, still believes he can turn the tables and turn the tables.

Already the aggressive statement issued by his personal Office insults the official claims of Koumoundourou, describing the decision as “allegedly irreversible”.

“Some – under a state of panic – hastened to alter even this decision of Saturday that they themselves took” it was underlined in this regard.

In the same text, the staff of Stefanos Kasselakis referred to article 20 of the Statute, which, as pointed out, “is clear and cannot be disputed”. According to the same announcement, “the Congress has every authority, as the highest body, to reject or ratify all decisions of the Central Committee, in accordance with article 20 par. 1 and 2 of the Statute.”

“Let’s hope that the Stalinist announcements that expose the party to its members do not become the grim normality that some are looking for” was the harsh conclusion of the text.

The next battle is the election of delegates

Stefanos Kasselakis himself with “take SYRIZA into your hands. At the conference, democracy fights back” in the video he posted earlier, he started the last attempt to control the selection of delegates (November 2-3) through the registration of members until 10/25. Something of course that with the current measure (from 1/40 to 1/60) it is still unclear whether it will favor him in the new battle that will be fought nationwide. Especially as members leave the organizations as a sign of protest for his ostracism from the party in two phases (reprimand, name exclusion).

In this context of the gathering, the former president of the party is preparing for rallies of support with the aim of showing his dynamism.

At the same time, of course, the present majority is proceeding to the congress and thus to the election of a president without him, with all that this means for the future.
