WARNING ORANGE THUNDERSTORMS HERAULT Situation update at 4:45 p.m.

ORANGE THUNDERSTORM WARNING

YELLOW WARNING RAIN-FLOOD; FLOODS; SUBMERSION WAVES

Update at 4:30 p.m.

Hérault is placed by Météo-France on orange alert for thunderstorms and on yellow alert for rain, flooding, floods and waves-submersion.

A mobile storm line is currently circulating in the west of the department (Capestang, St Chinian, Lamalou-les-Bains sectors) towards Haut Languedoc. At the height of the precipitation, there is 15 to 20 mm towards Salvetat-sur-Agout.

A few stormy outbreaks were also observed in the Montpellier sector, without any particular seriousness.

The strongest storms should be confined to the west of the department.

A return to calm is expected at the end of the day around 8 p.m.

The department will be downgraded to yellow thunderstorm vigilance from 6 p.m.

No intervention by SDIS 34 is to be mentioned.

The population is recommended to exercise the greatest vigilance and follow the following safety instructions:

  • • Do not put yourself in danger and postpone all your trips on foot or by car
  • • Do not take your car (30 centimeters of water is enough to wash it away)
  • • Leave your children at school, they are safe in schools which will remain open longer
  • • Do not leave work during bad weather
  • • Do not go down into basements or underground parking lots
  • • Stay away from watercourses, banks, bridges
  • • Do not engage in fording
  • • Contact vulnerable and isolated people by favoring SMS
