The Upper Austria Ladies Linz (January 26th – February 2nd, 2025) is once again bringing a week of world-class women’s tennis to Linz – and from here to the whole world. The 34th edition of the classic will also be broadcast in 150 countries worldwide. This year the tournament once again has WTA 500 status with prize money of just under a million dollars.
The upgrade to the WTA 500 category took the tournament to a new level last year – with 1.1 billion TV households reached, 4,502 online press articles and 111 million social media impressions. The total advertising value of the tournament is 184.9 million euros. With its tournament, Linz is on a par with the metropolises of Vienna, Tokyo, Washington, Seoul and Berlin.”If you keep in mind that the WTA tournaments are broadcast in more than 150 countries worldwide and their social media channels around 6 If we have millions of followers, the appeal is enormous,” says Sports and Economics Councilor Markus Achleitner. Upper Austria is also the leading tennis federal state: with 367 clubs and around 40,000 athletes, Upper Austria has the most athletes in this category.
“The Design Center was built for the tennis tournament”
Since last year, there has been another new “tournament star” with the Design Center as the new venue: the stylish exhibition hall with 2,000 seats was well received by participants and spectators alike. “The Upper Austria Ladies Linz fits perfectly into our house, I dare to say that we have one of the most beautiful locations in the world for a tournament of this kind with the perfect infrastructure,” says Design Center Boss Thomas Ziegler. “The Design Center was built for the tennis tournament,” says tournament director Sandra Reichel, full of praise for the location. Despite the huge challenge of the move, there were no teething problems.
The winner receives $142,000 (instead of the previous $30,000), with a total of $922,000 being paid out. The 34th edition of the tournament will take place again at the end of January – at the start of the season, when the games are still fresh and “hungry”. Advance sales have already started, there are special early bird discounts until October 31st, the cheapest day ticket starts at 20 euros (http://ladieslinz.at).
