Turkey: Denies its involvement in the incident on its border with Syria –

Turkish media reported that mortar shells landed in the mined area of the border with Syria near the Turkish city of Kilis, and the Turkish armed forces responded with a barrage of artillery fire. A fire broke out in the area.

The prefecture of Kilis Province announced that seven rockets and one RPG fell on the mined area on the Turkish side of the border as a result of clashes on Syrian soil between two warring groups of the “Syrian National Army“.

Also, from the “Center for Combating Disinformation” of the Turkish presidency, it was announced that “the Turkish armed forces are not involved in the conflict in Syria. There is no attack on our border.”

The Syrian lands opposite Kilis are the area that Turkey invaded in 2016 as part of Operation Euphrates Shield and are currently controlled by Turkey and its backed “Syrian National Army” made up of militants fighting the regime of Damascus.

Such a heated episode heightens concerns, as it comes at a time when fears are being expressed of an extension of the war to the wider Middle East region.
