An employee of the Municipal Budgetary Institution “Housing and Communal Services”, who went on shift in the morning on Pontecorvo Street in Dubna, became the victim of an attack by a raccoon dog. Previously, the animal had already been spotted on the streets of the science city, but then it did not show aggression and simply watched from the sidelines.
“As usual, I came on shift. At first I thought it was a raccoon and decided to approach. She bit me right away. It’s good that there was an emergency room nearby, where doctors administered a rabies vaccination. Many thanks to them,” said Abdullo Farkhodov.
Previously, the animal was walking around the garden plot in the Dubna SNT “Zarya 2”. The corresponding video appeared in one of the city’s public pages on social networks.
So, the animal was spotted in the courtyard of a private house on Sector 5 Street. The woman who filmed it initially thought it was a raccoon, but commenters said it was a raccoon dog.
“Is she back? This is a raccoon dog. They are the main carriers of rabies, and if they come out to people, this is a reason to sound the alarm,” wrote a woman who met the animal.
Moreover, this is not the first time these animals have been encountered in Dubna and its environs. In early October, a raccoon dog was seen near school No. 10. According to residents, she looked “pinched” and behaved inappropriately.
Also, a raccoon dog had previously attacked residents of the neighboring Konakovsky district of the Tver region. In Moshkovsky Bay, the beast wandered into a tourist camp and attacked one of the vacationers. As a result, the dog was taken to the animal disease control station, and the victim was vaccinated.
Raccoon dogs often carry rabies, a disease that is dangerous for both animals and humans. Anyone infected with this disease dies in 100% of cases. The virus is transmitted through saliva when bitten by a sick animal. If an animal attacks, you must immediately get vaccinated at the nearest medical facility.
