A fire broke out early Thursday morning in the Stroomhuis cultural center in Eindhoven. The flames are burning meters high from the roof, the building can no longer be saved. Two people were taken out of the building by the fire brigade. The building is located right next to the railway.
The fire started shortly after four o’clock on Thursday morning. The fire rises in the roof, which is mainly made of wood.
“The floors and the attic are made of wood. So the fire is being fought from the outside, because there is a risk of the building collapsing. The building might collapse lost in total,” said a spokesman for the Brabant Zuidoost informed.
A lot of smoke anxiety
Both were taken out of the building by the fire brigade, but were not injured. The fire brigade has set up a water curtain to prevent the fire from spreading.
The fire caused a lot of smoke, which spread over areas where people lived. The fire brigade advises local residents to keep windows and doors closed.
Train traffic is moving
Despite the fire and heat, trains run on the track next to the Stroomhuis. “They drive at a low speed. The smoke goes in the other direction, so they can keep driving,” said the fire brigade.
The Stroomhuis is a famous cultural icon of the town where concerts, workshops and parties are held. There would have been another incident in the building on Wednesday night. The cause of the fire is still unclear.
