Although the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé is a vast evolution of its predecessor, the people of Munich still refer to it as a new generation. She shares the stage with compact “number one”which means a front wheel drive architecture and a choice of petrol or diesel engines.
The length of the novel is 4,546 millimeters, it has grown in length, width and height. Nevertheless, the designers played with the silhouette so that the “two” still looked tough and fun. What did he do! The 2 Series Gran Coupé does not try to be unusual at all costs, so it also maintains the sober shape of the kidney stones. But he won’t give it to us, from some angles their shape together with the lights remind us of cars of a completely different brand. Korean… in three letters… can you guess?
The cabin copies other small Bavarians, even here two screens together in one unit and there is a minimum of physical buttons. Everything important is already set only through the shows. The latest generation of infotainment promises fast operation and flexible reactions. They may also have worked on clarity, because you can easily get lost in the current confusion of images.
There are petrol and diesel engines to choose from. The basis of the offer is the 220 variant with a three-cylinder fifteen-cylinder engine and mild-hybrid support. Under the floor of the trunk we find a small battery (that’s why the trunk of the mild hybrid is smaller – 360 vs. 430 l) and the combustion engine is supported by an electric motor with 15 kW and 55 Nm, which located in a seven-speed automatic transmission. Although it is basic, it still offers a nice 170 horses and a hundred in 7.9 seconds.
The diesel engine 220d is also a mild hybrid, ie a two-liter engine with 163 horsepower and 400 newton meters of torque, which, according to the tables, filters a little more than four liters from the tank. However, you can also buy a turbodiesel without electrification, under specification 118d there is a two-liter, 150 hp and 360 Nm.
The sharper variety was not forgotten either. At the top is the M235 xDrive Gran Coupé with a two-liter, turbocharged four-wheel drive and an output of 300 horsepower. You get 100 km / h in 4.9 seconds, but also an adaptive M device, mechanical locking of the front differential, and maybe even a more advanced brake system.
BMW has not yet announced whether the engine range will be expanded to include other versions, such as a weaker three-cylinder base or a more civilized four-wheel drive model. However, he revealed that the new generation of the 2 Series Gran Coupé is expected to enter European markets in March 2025, Czech prices will start at less than a million.
