One nursing home apartment was destroyed in a fire in Outokumpu.

A fire broke out in a nursing home in Outokumpu in North Karelia on Wednesday evening. The North Karelia rescue service was alerted to the nursing home located on Mykymäentie about a quarter to seven in the evening.
The police patrol was already at the scene of the fire when the rescue service was alerted. At the time of the fire, there were two nurses in the nursing home who guided the residents out of the building. The police removed one person from the scene.
According to the rescue service, there were no serious personal injuries in the fire, but the nursing home suffered significant damage. One apartment was destroyed. Temporary accommodation has been arranged for eight residents.
The burnt-out nursing home has ten client places for substance abuse rehabilitation.
Based on the first assessment of the rescue service, the fire was started intentionally. The police are investigating the cause of the fire.
The fire department extinguished the fire during Wednesday evening. The surveillance will continue the night before Thursday. Thirteen emergency services units, a police patrol and a first aid unit participated in the alarm mission.
