A powerful earthquake shook the Elazig province of Türkiye in 2020.
And powerful earthquake of magnitude 5.9 has shaken Türkiye and has been felt in Syria and Lebanon. The earthquake was recorded this Wednesday in Malatya provinceas reported by the European Mediterranean Seismological Center. The earthquake occurred at a depth of nine kilometers. At the moment there is no official information about victims or damages.
The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Center (AFAD) has reported on the earthquake, with epicenter was the Kale districtin the province of Malatya it was felt around 10:40 a.m. local time (9:40 a.m. in Spain).
The earthquake is felt in Syria and Lebanon
The earthquake has been felt with intensity in the Turkish regions of Diyarbakir, Elazig and Malatyabut it has even been felt in Syria and Lebanon. In Diyarbakir, people fled their homes for fear that they would collapse on them, according to the Haberturk television.
Syria’s state news agency said the earthquake was felt in the provinces of Hasakah, Deir al-Zor and Ale.
Malatya was one of 11 Turkish provinces that suffered the most from the deadly February 2023 earthquake, which killed about 50,000 people in Türkiye and Syria.
