It is the second time that the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis asks the (again) President of PaSoK Nikos Androulakis meeting. The first was when Mr. Androulakis was elected President of the party for the first time. However, the meeting never took place, although there was an initial “ok” from Mr. Androulakis.
The relationship between the two men has also broken up due to the case of wiretapping. Harilaou Trikoupi broadcasted, adamantly, that the Prime Minister bears great responsibility for monitoring the president of the PASoK. Now comes the second invitation, with the hope that it is never too late and that this time, as government officials report to Vimatodotis, the new phase in which the president of PaSoK is now passing may lead to the much-discussed meeting. But why does Mr. Mitsotakis want to meet and discuss with Mr. Androulakis?
According to the Pacemaker, the first version has to do with the fact that PaSoK is emerging as the main opposition pole against the government, even if it formally does not have the title of official opposition.
The second version is that after the leadership elections in PaSoK, new political facts were created and Maximos (and in general in the government) recognize that institutionally there must be open channels of communication.
The third version has to do with the role expected to be taken by the Pavlos Geroulanos and Anna Diamantopoulou in the party. At Maximos they recognize that the balance and dynamics of PaSoK are changing. And they expect how the political discourse on critical bills will be shaped from now on.
What do Androulakis’ associates answer?
But what do the associates of Nikos Androulakis say about the Prime Minister’s new invitation? Same as last time. What they are waiting for is whether Mr. Mitsotakis really wants to meet the president of PaSoK, an official request. And they would prefer this meeting to take place in the context of a series of meetings that Mr. Mitsotakis would have with all political leaders and not just with Mr. Androulakis.
In PASoK, they do not want to fuel scenarios of rapprochement or the creation of a fraternal climate with the New Democracy, as they aspire to become its number one opponent. It is most likely that instead of a meeting between Mitsotakis and Androulakis, we will see arrows being fired from one side against the other.
