Dorsten is not only a city between the Ruhr area and Münsterland, it is also the namesake of a successful US band. On Sunday (November 3rd), the Duo Dorsten will play a free concert in the Altstadt meeting point, according to the city’s press release.
Sophie and Alex are siblings from Phoenix, Arizona, make music together and their last name is Dorsten. This is how the band name of the same name comes about. The two are now stopping in Dorsten for the second time on their European tour.
Back in April they were on stage for a spontaneous concert in the machine hall on the Fürst Leopold colliery site. Around 200 people were surprised by the folk rock/Americana sounds of the two siblings.
“Ethereal Voice”
With a lot of soul, Sophie’s voice hits straight to the heart. The music magazine “Sinusoidal Music” describes it as an “ethereal voice that penetrates the fabric of reality.” Sophie’s voice is carried by her brother Alex’s guitar playing.
The band finds inspiration in artists such as Florence + The Machine, The Lumineers and Kaleo. Together they are looking forward to “getting to know many more Dorsten residents”.
