Schiele’s “Living Landscapes” exhibition in New York

Schiele’s exhibition “Living Landscapes” opens in New York on Wednesday night. The exhibition in the Neue Galerie was designed by Christian Bauer, curator of the Egon Schiele Museum in Tulln. “With the exhibition, the landscapes of Lower Austria – from Tulln through Neulengbach and Klosterneuburg – move into the center of New York’s Museum Mile,” said a press release. The State Collections of Lower Austria participating in the exhibition with early major works.

“Medium works by the artist from museums and private collections in the US, Europe and Asia offer a new look at the subject of landscapes, which for Schiele was the most important aspect of his life,” the Tulln Museum said Wednesday. “Egon Schiele’s greatest love was nature,” Bauer explained of the exhibition’s theme. The artist was at least as important a landscape painter as he was a portrait painter. His landscapes certainly have human qualities: “Sunflowers and autumn trees appear like portraits.”

Reneé Price, the founding director of the Neue Galerie New York, thanked Bauer, “who curated the exhibition and was able to convince several borrowers.” “Egon Schiele: Landscapes” will be shown from October 17, 2024 to January 13, 2025 at 1048 Fifth Avenue in the “Ronald S. Lauder Neue Galerie New York” as a museum for German and Austrian art. The exhibition follows the “Klimt Landscapes” exhibition in spring 2024.
