Local sports table tennis Table tennis aces play nine titles from the Ortenau news

District championships were organized by the TTC Nonnenweier for the first time. Both days of the tournament in the Burkhard-Michael-Halle went well.

At the Ortenau table tennis district championships for youth classes 11 to 19, adults and seniors, the district and host TTC Nonnenweier were satisfied. With over 170 participants in the Saturday youth title fights from 20 clubs and around 30 participants on Sunday for adults and seniors from 14 clubs, the numbers from the previous year were roughly matched.

While Sunday went smoothly given the much smaller field, the TTC officials were curious to see how the tournament Saturday would be handled. The background was a change of organizer after the TTF Schwanau/Meißenheim had previously hosted the event for years.

Nonnenweier has had proven experience with organizing ranking lists for years, and the district championships have now celebrated their premiere. As it turned out, the Riedverein had diligently organized and prepared the Burkhard-Michael-Halle in advance with a partly new organizational team. As emerged from discussions on the sidelines, individual club representatives would have preferred some details to be different due to the limited space in the stands and, in their opinion, narrow aisles between the tables. There were also technical problems with the hall’s micro system, which made conditions more difficult for the tournament management. But that was a municipal problem and not the organizer’s fault.

In the further course everything went smoothly in terms of sport, as head referee Leon Huck (Hohberg) confirmed in a relaxed manner. “We are super happy with how the tournament days went. Not much more is possible,” said a satisfied Holger Brandt, table tennis director at TTC Nonnenweier. The club plans to apply to host the championships in 2025 as well. “The fact that we were able to win two additional championship titles is one of our greatest successes in the club’s recent history.”

Nine titles were played on Saturday. Henri Hätti (SG Renchtal) won the boys 9 category. Eric Mateiu (Nonnenweier) and Jana Wacker (Ringsheim) won the 11 competitions. Wacker had to go through five sets in the final. 13 district champions were Levi Ziegelmeier (Renchen), who narrowly won his final, and Annika Heuberger (Seelbach-Schuttertal). In the 15 area, Max Rudolf (Hohberg) and Lena Heuberger (Seelbach-Schuttertal) were at the top of the podium. Lev Rojak (Offenburg) and Michaela Kopp (Berghaupten) dominated the 19 area.

Five competitions were on the program on Sunday. Nick Do (Hohberg) won the men’s A singles, while Do/Björn Schaub (Nonnenweier) won the doubles. Rafal Adamczak (Oberharmersbach) won the men’s C singles competition, while Joscha Köhler (Willstätt)/Joel Lamm (Friesenheim) won the doubles. Markus Roth (Gengenbach) took the men’s D championship with him.
