BERLIN (dpa-AFX) – The Verdi union is calling on cash and valuables transport workers in all federal states to go on warning strikes throughout the day this Thursday and Friday. The background is the wage and bargaining negotiations for around 10,000 workers in the industry, which are entering another round these days. “In order to put pressure on the employers to present a negotiation offer in the next round of negotiations at the latest, we have called a strike again,” said Verdi negotiator Sonja Austermühle.
The German Federal Association of Cash and Valuable Services (BDGW) did not present an adequate offer in the second round of negotiations on 20 September. Even after the subsequent warning strikes on September 30 and October 1st and 2nd, no better offer was made, Verdi said.
During this strike there were isolated problems with cash supply at ATMs. According to their own statements, the sales department had no problems. The industry association BDGW condemned the strike. A strike of this magnitude, announced without warning, was “already unusual,” a spokesman said.
The union wants more than eight hours per workday to be paid with overtime pay. It also requires a uniform holiday bonus and a Christmas bonus each amounting to half of the total monthly salary and a holiday entitlement of 31 days based on a 5-day week for each employee. In addition, Verdi wants a significant increase in wages – to a maximum of 23 euros an hour in North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony./hgo/DP/jha
