In a statement posted on social media, the carrier said its flight Al127, which departed from Delhi and was scheduled to fly to Chicago, was the subject of a “security threat posted online.” However, the nature and origin of this threat have not been revealed.

“As a precautionary measure (the plane) landed at Iqaluit airport in Canada. The aircraft and passengers are re-screened in accordance with established security protocol. Air India has engaged agencies at the airport to assist passengers until their travel can resume,” the carrier said.

According to Air India, several airlines – including it – have been the target of threats in recent days.

“Although these were later found to be hoaxes, as a responsible airline operator, all threats are taken seriously,” said the company, which apologized to passengers assigned for inconveniences.

Air India assured that it is fully cooperating with the authorities to identify the perpetrators of these threats “so that they can be held responsible for the disruption and inconvenience caused to passengers”.

She will consider legal action against those responsible.
