Top 3 of the best Rugby teams in Chile

Chile is one of the South American countries with the most activities linked to the world of rugby. However, Argentina has favoritism on betting sites ver. But the Chileans have known how to compete very well over the years. And this reflects the potential that tournaments have within the country. There are teams there promoting players every year and, of course, winning important titles.

What are the best equipment? Rugby in Chile? Could they compete successfully outside the country? Below, we leave you everything you need to know about the three main powers within the country.

The 3 best Rugby teams in Chile

The success of ‘Los Cóndores‘ responds to a large rugby industry in Chile. There, as a result of the First National TOP 10, great athletes emerge every year. However, the best teams have not changed much over the years. And that is why here we present the three main ones that you should take into consideration.

Catholic University

With 20 titles, the Catholic University is the team with the most titles in professional rugby in Chile. They won the first in 1949 and the last in 2019, so it has been five years without titles. The reason? Competition is increasing as a result of the growth and development of sports in the country.

However, although they have shone within the country, they have not been able to transfer their success to foreign competitions. A runner-up finish in the Western Regional Tournament in Argentina during the year 2000 is especially remembered. But after that they have not had greater success.

On the other hand, it should also be mentioned that there is not a fully developed industry at the club level. In the case of rugby, international success is measured more through national teams. There, Chile has left a very good continental impression, being considered the third best after Argentina and Uruguay.

Old Boys

Occupying second place in the country’s record, Old Boys appears with 19 titles. Their first success came in 1954 and their last in 2017. However, successes of all kinds have been present in the history of this club. With the exception of international competitions, where participation has been almost zero.

This club from Santiago de Chile has one of the most numerous bars in the country: “La 16”. At the same time, it has been the home of great players who later gave their all with ‘Los Cóndores’. Without a doubt, it is one of the institutions called to continue growing to boost the industry.

As most of the titles are disputed, they are classic rivals of the Catholic University. However, they agree with them that in both they have been able to show their best version only at the international level. And there is still a lot of room for improvement before thinking about tournaments outside the country.

PWCC

There are 15 titles that PWCC has, the first being in 1948, during the first edition of the maximum rugby tournament in Chile. In this way, it is a historic institution. It is a club that was founded in 1925 and remains active to this day.

Their successes, like those of their aforementioned rivals, are only national. They also managed to win the Sevens to Side Arusa Circuit in 2015 and several other competitions within their lands. On the other hand, their level has not always been tested with other teams on the continent due to a lack of tournaments and initiatives.

That is why Chile’s success at the international level in rugby is measured by selection. In fact, in 2015, when PWCC won the Primera Nacional and the Circuito de Sevens a Side Arusa, ‘Los Cóndores’ won the Sudamericano de Rugby A. This is the only time they have won it.

In 2022, they won the Americas Rugby Trophy, this being the second title in their history.
