Extension: Exceptions prove the rule
If there is no winner after 60 minutes of play, the game will go to extra time. The playing time is ten minutes. Each team has two timeouts. If there is still a tie at the end of extra time, the result of the match will be considered a draw.
Unlike regular season games, playoff games cannot end in a draw, so the rules for overtime in the knockout rounds change slightly. If the score is still tied at the end of the ten minute overtime period – or if the second team’s first possession has yet to expire – the teams will play another overtime period. The game will continue regardless of how many overtime periods are necessary to determine a winner.
There is a two minute break between each extension. After the second overtime there is no halftime break. Each team has three schedules per half. The same period rules that apply at the end of the second and fourth quarters in regular time (keyword “emergency period”) also apply at the end of the second or fourth overtime period.
