/ world today news/ The Movement for Rights and Freedoms released its chairman Lyutvi Mestan from all posts on his birthday. This became clear after the extraordinary meeting of the Central Council of the DPS in the house of Ahmed Dogan in Boyana.
After the words of the honorary chairman of DPS Ahmed Dogan during the meeting: “Such will be the fate of anyone who stands against the national interests of Bulgaria”, Mestan was officially removed from the chairmanship of “Al. Stamboliyski” 45A. Četin Kazak, Mustafa Karadayi and Rushen Riza, who will head the Chairman’s Council, will be housed there temporarily until the DPS conference is convened.
Until recently, the leader of the movement was excluded even as chairman of the Central Committee of the DPS, chairman of the Central Committee and PG of the DPS. Mestan was also excluded as a member of the DPS.
Shortly before the start of the extraordinary meeting of the Central Council of the DPS in Boyanski Sarai, the members of the party expressed laconic opinions to the media.
Jeyhan Ibryamov explained that the Central Council, apart from the chairman, can be convened by 1/3 of the party members. He also commented that the DPS is more united than ever. Ramadan Atalay, on the other hand, expressed the opinion that everything that happens on Christmas is extraordinary. But you know miracles also happen at Christmas, he added.
Shortly before the start of the meeting of the DPS elite in Boyana, Lyutvi Mestan gave a press conference in Kardzhali. There he explained that he did not intend to resign as the leader of the DPS and that he had not been asked to do so. Again in Kardzhali Mestan, he vowed that he would always work for the ideas of DPS.
Lutvi Mestan explained that he stands behind his position in the parliament on the downed Russian fighter jet and does not accept that it was a mistake, Mestan also noted. Unaware of the decision of his fellow party members, Mestan stated that he expected to receive “the most valuable gift” for his birthday and appealed to the audience not to trample on their human dignity. He also accused that Ahmed Dogan’s criticism of him was without serious arguments.
The DPS fell into crisis after the party released a few days ago the statement of its honorary chairman Ahmed Dogan during the New Year reception in Boyana.
In his speech to the DPS leadership, Dogan openly criticized the behavior of Lyutvi Mestan after the downing of the Russian Su-24 bomber by the Turkish Air Force: “For me, this statement was a blunder, Mr. Mestan. The Pentagon has no position, NATO has no position. Besides, the Bulgarian is very sensitive about this topic. His anxiety has the power of a historical archetype. What if there’s a fire, what do we do?! What do we do if there’s a fire, gentlemen… We’re in the perimeter of potential military action… Or do you think that’s not possible?! I don’t want Bulgaria to become a victim, I don’t want our electorate to be a bargaining chip for anything. I don’t want it! Any other ideas call into question the security of life, the political meaning of DPS. If we do not realize this, then we are not in class. An unmeasured action of ours can give rise to such consequences that we later wonder about – but that’s how it was, but someone didn’t understand us, didn’t fully understand us, and so on…”
Mestan became the head of DPS in January 2013. He was nominated for this post by Dogan personally. During the forum, which took place on January 19, while the latter was speaking on the rostrum, Oktay Enimekhmedov suddenly appeared and tried to assassinate him.
