Who was Line Marnée?
Agnès Duneau, from the Breton Center for Popular Art: “Herveline Breton, known as Line Marnée, was a singer from Tréménac’h in Plouguerneau, born in August 1914. She became a singer through her mother, a peasant-goémonière through her husband, and a transmitter of tradition like many other Breton people of her generation, throughout the 20th century, singing on all occasions. She passed away in 2005.
What made his repertoire original?
“Most of Line Marnée’s songs found on this CD have become reference songs in Pagan country, such as “Rimimi my brother” to lead the dañs Round. Line Marnée was one of those singers who brought down to us tunes that were part of their daily lives, in a society and an era where oral heritage held an important place among men.”
Why a CD, vigils?
“The idea of bringing together part of a traditional singer’s repertoire on an album is not new to Dastum. But this also made it possible to bring together current singers, from different generations, giving them a special place alongside her, by offering their own way of singing. This enrichment has given rise to new encounters, which now continues through vigils, a precious and very current medium, where transmission continues.”
