Bakufuun is the final form of Cyndaquil, one of the first Pokemon you get in Pokemon Gold and Silver. I liked the fire types when I was a kid, so I chose Charmander for the first generation Pokemon, and Chinfish for Gold and Silver. However, my memories may be slightly tainted by this leak…
What was found among the leaked files was “legend” related to Bak Hoon. The theme of the story is “the relationship between humans and Pokemon,” and it begins with the following introduction.
“A long time ago. A time when the line between Pokemon and humans was blurred.”
The beginning of the story gives me a very bad feeling. However, the story takes an even stranger turn than expected.
A girl is tricked by Bak Hoon, who has the ability to transform, into thinking he is a man. It seems that the girl later had a child with Bak Hoon and became his “wife.” Finally, his father comes and kills Bak Hoon. When the girl and her child return to the village, they are bullied by the youth of the village. At one point, the young men cover both of them with Bakhoun fur. The two then fled into the forest together, never to return.
That’s the summary, but let me introduce you to one particularly nightmarish section. This is the conversation between Bak Hoon and the girl when he found out that the girl’s father was looking for his daughter.
“Soon your father will be here. Now I am going to do bad things to your father. If I am killed, you will have my eyes, my voice, my heart. And the place where the I was killed. I want you to light a fire and burn it.
said the girl. “Please don’t kill my father. Don’t. I want you killed.”
“Goodbye. We shall never meet again.”
After saying that, Bakhoon went out.
In many legends around the world, including Japan, there are events where animals change into people, or people turn into animals to deceive people. For example, Zeus in Greek mythology is said to have changed into various forms. Bakufuun is a Pokemon based on a badger. In Japanese legend, Mujina is said to be a shape-shifting monster. That’s not to say that this story had no basis at all. But it’s surprising that a story like this was included in the Pokémon documentation.
We do not know why this news was created or why it was included in the leaked files. It’s unclear who wrote it, or if it was ever intended to be included in the actual game (Pokémon has a lot of dark situations, but none that weird). Anyway, the news has been circulating online and Bak Hoon’s image has changed forever. At least for me…
