Against Vlacho – Hatzidakis for “red” loans: “We gave the knife and the melon to banks and funds” – “Far from populist practices” –

A confrontation broke out in the Plenary Session of the Parliament between the Minister of National Economy and Finance and the George Vlachos during the discussion of the Current Question on “red” loans, with which the “blue” MP returned to the issue after the Question of “11” on unprotected borrowers.

“We gave both the knife and the melon to banks and funds. We can’t take the melon back, but we can give the knife to a hand that will distribute fairly” said Mr. Vlachos, who in his retrial denied his claims Kostis Hatzidakis on improving the situation for borrowers.

“All those who have besieged us (including the ND’s KO), don’t they understand their own good? You are presenting a world ideally made” continued Mr. Vlahos, who cited the examples of two borrowers who, apart from having lost all their assets, are still over-indebted to the banks.

“The reality is what I say”

“Let’s look at these and bring justice to the system” said the ND deputy, characterizing the framework for the regulation of “red” loans as favorable only for servicers, banks and funds. “Why shouldn’t the borrower know why the out-of-court offer is rejected by the servicers?” asked the minister, criticizing the reckless increase in interest rates, which equally burdens the borrowers.

Previously, Mr. Vlahos had clarified that “no platform works” in relation to the personalized information of borrowers, while he clarified that “the reality is what I say, not you. I will not overthrow the government, nor anyone else. We carry the voice of our fellow citizens, we are in the same boat.”

“The problem has been contained”

On the contrary, the minister insisted that he must combine “economic seriousness with social sensitivity” in the effort to deal with “red” loans and that he will stay away from “populist discussions and practices”. In this pattern, Mr. Hatzidakis refused to comment on the two cases of unfair treatment of banks and funds cited by Mr. Vlahos, while he went so far as to claim that “with me as a minister and with us as a government, the servicers have obligations”.

In addition, the obvious difficulty of Mr. Hatzidakis or according to EYP “5046c” was reflected in the fact that he invoked Konstantinos Karamanlis, wanting in this way to entertain the impression in terms of party patriotism.
