Citizenship, Tajani launches the Ius Italiae. Magi: “If it’s a pejorative proposal, we’re not in favor of it”

Forza Italia’s proposal on citizenship arrives, with a name perhaps more ‘drinkable’ for the allies: instead of “Ius scholae“, “Ius Italiae”. AND’ Antonio Tajani who talks about it on TV: “There is the Ius scholae but I would prefer to talk about Ius Italiae: you become Italian because you were trained as an Italian. There are many scams around the world. We must ensure that citizenship is a thing serious: being Italian is something serious that cannot be trivialized.”

Meanwhile, FI participates in a panel on citizenship together with other opposition representatives. The stage is that of Save the Children: an event dedicated to children who live in Italy but have foreign origins. Here, the blue Paolo Emilio Russo formalizes the three pillars of the upcoming law proposal on the Ius scholae. Among these is “the reduction from 3 to 1 year of the period in which the State must or can respond to requests for citizenship”.

FI’s pdl is “ready and we will file it in the next few days”, announces the parliamentarian. There is “the Ius scholae, that is, children born and not born in Italy who follow a course of compulsory studies will have recognized citizenship” and there is also “a very strong restriction of the concessions for Ius sanguinis, for the so-called second-year origins generation”. Now we need to convince the rebellious allies of the priority of the issue.

Italy alive, with the senator, is ideally reaching out to Tajani’s party Raffaella Shirt in a video message: “We offer our availability” both “with the elaborate texts” and “to find high points of mediation”.

The secretary of Più Europa also responded to the appeal of Save the Children and Unicef, who asked to overcome the current legislation Riccardo Magipromoter of the referendum on citizenship which exceeded the threshold of 500 thousand signatures in record time, and the Democratic MP Ouidad Bakkalifirst signatory of the Democrats’ bill. “I believe that we need all the Ius” to put the “minor at the center of rights”, said Bakkali.

Magi, on the other hand, is sceptical: “Russo has announced some contents” of the blue PDL “including that of reducing the number of years of waiting for the procedure to have an answer to the application for granting citizenship. Very good, but we must also remember that in 2018 the time for granting citizenship was extended with the Salvini decree. Has there therefore been a rethink on the part of those political forces who had proposed and converted that decree law and who are now in government?”. “We will examine with little attention and with a constructive spirit all the proposals that will be presented on the subject in parliament but it is obvious that if the intention is to worsen the current law we are not there”, he added.
