A new vaccination campaign against influenza and Covid-19 opens from October 15, 2024. For vulnerable people, it is strongly recommended to be vaccinated as winter approaches.
Where, when and how to get vaccinated against flu and Covid-19? From this Tuesday, October 15, the vaccination campaign against flu and Covid-19 begins. This extends until January 31, 2025.
For health insurance, “It is strongly recommended that people at risk of developing severe forms of Covid-19 be vaccinated, in order to be immunized against the SARS-CoV-2 virus”. “Every fall, a vaccination campaign is launched,” they recall.
Vaccination against Covid-19 is fully covered
Like the flu, for vaccination against Covid-19, the High Authority for Health particularly targets “people at risk of serious form”.
This includes people aged 65 and over, infants aged 6 months and over, and people with comorbidities who have a higher risk of a serious form of the disease. For Health Insurance, immunocompromised people, pregnant women, residents of nursing homes and their relatives are also affected.
If vaccination is recommended for certain groups, it remains open to all and is fully covered. Vaccination can be done at your doctor’s office, via a nurse or a pharmacist. Injected intramuscularly, it is “the monovalent messenger RNA vaccine Comirnaty JN1 from Pfizer/BioNTech which is available for the 2024-2025 vaccination campaign.”
“The formulation of this vaccine has been adapted to the JN.1 variant of the virus, which is the majority circulating variant in the territory,” specifies Health Insurance.
According to a bulletin published by Public Health France on October 9“we observed (…) an increase in the detection of SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater, indicating active circulation of the virus.”
The flu vaccine is free for certain people
It is possible to get vaccinated against the flu on the same day. “Because it changes every year, it is essential to protect yourself from it and to be vaccinated every year,” recalls Health Insurance. Like vaccination against Covid-19, vaccination against the flu is open to all. But it remains recommended for certain audiences who are more vulnerable to illness. The list of the target audience is essentially the same as that for the Covid-19 vaccine.
“For these people, the vaccine is given free of charge at the pharmacy, upon presentation of the Vitale card and the Health Insurance voucher. In other cases, it is not covered by Insurance illness The vaccine may be free, but the injection requires payment,” specifies Health Insurance.
There are many places to vaccinate against influenza, Health Insurance points out: “Health professionals authorized to vaccinate are doctors, nurses, pharmacists, midwives and medical or pharmacy students. competences have recently been broadened in matters of vaccination.”
During the previous winter, people at risk were less vaccinated against the flu, compared to the winter of 2022/2023.
