Miltos Tedoglou is among five World Athletics candidates for the 2024 World Men’s Athlete of the Year, the world athletics federation announced on Monday.
“World Athletics is pleased to confirm the shortlist of five nominees for the Women’s Athlete of the Year and five nominees for the Men’s Athlete of the Year. These athletes were selected by an international committee of athletics experts, which is made up of representatives from all six continental regions of World Athletics,” the statement said.
World Athletics gives three top athlete awards to men and women: in jumps/throws/combined, indoor and outdoor running events, with one male and one female athlete winning the title of overall top athlete of the year.
The 2024 Men’s Track & Field Athlete of the Year nominees are (in alphabetical order):

– Olympic champion in the triple jump
– World leader
Mondo Duplantis, Sweden
– Olympic pole vaulter

– Olympic champion in the hammer
– World leader
Miltiadis Tentoglou, Greece
– Olympic champion in the long jump
– World indoor long jump champion
Voting for the Athletics Athlete of the Year finalists is now open on World Athletics’ social media platforms. Voting will end on October 20.
Nominees for the Athletics Athlete of the Year awards will be announced on October 21, and the nominees for the Track and Field Athlete of the Year awards will be announced on October 28.

The process
The panel of international experts compiled a long list of nominees for each of the three main award categories. Voting will be held to determine the two finalists in each category.
The World Sports Council vote will count for 50% of the result, while the World Sports Family vote and social media votes will each count for 25% of the result.
The World Sports Council and the World Sports Family will vote via email, while social media voting will be open on Facebook, Instagram and X. A ‘like’ on Facebook and Instagram or a retweet on X will count as one vote.

October 14-20 – Voting begins for Athletes of the Year in the field
October 21-27 – voting begins for track and field athletes of the year
October 28-November 3 – voting begins for off-court athletes of the year
November 4 – the finalists for each category are announced
November 4 – fan voting opens
This triple vote will result in two finalists, whose names will be officially announced on November 4. From the same day, the final voting phase will begin, where fans will be invited to choose the top athlete.
