Monistrol-sur-Loire: la Boulaie, 50 years of housing dogs and cats

Hostellerie La Boulaie, a boarding house for dogs and cats in Monistrol-sur-Loire, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

The story began in 1974 with the Verot couple who bought land in “Praisles”, between Monistrol and La Séauve-sur-Semène.

On a plot of one hectare, they built their house and added boxes to accommodate the boarding dogs. They also had a breeder of schnauzer dogs.

In 1998, the Verot family passed on their property to Marie-Andrée and Paul Jammes who stayed for five years.

In 2003, Corinne and Alain Varoqui added a hotel for cats.

And since 2017, Philippe and Christiane Bourgeois have taken over.

“We have between 8 and 9,000 overnight stays per year. We have a lot of regulars. The number of guesthouses is decreasing, but there is no shortage of work. But it is very demanding and very supervised. It is 24 hours 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We welcome dogs and cats for the holidays, during hospitalization, a professional trip, a treatment. It can last one day or several weeks,” says Philippe Bourgeois who organized a day of activities on Saturday. to celebrate this 50th anniversary.
