WhatsApp has long since developed from a pure messenger into a platform on which users share their everyday lives with friends and family. The status feature allows you to post short insights in the form of images, videos or texts that disappear after 24 hours. Now WhatsApp is expanding the status function with some innovations that are intended to improve interaction between users.
One of the new features are the Status-Likes. Similar to other social media platforms, users can now express their enjoyment of a status with a quick like. In contrast to the well-known “Like” information, status likes remain private. Only the creator of the status can see who has liked their post.

Another innovation is the private mentions. If you want to draw the attention of certain people to a status, you can now mention them directly. The mentioned users will then receive a private notification. Practical: The user mentioned can attach the status to their own status with one click or share it in their own status and thus share it with their network.
At this point everything remains private for the time being, but that reminds us even more of classic social networks. Meta will integrate all of this in the coming months to make WhatsApp’s private status area at least as attractive as comparable functions of real social networks.
WhatsApp directly announces that it has planned even more innovations for the status, which will come “in the next few months”.
