What is it and what are the symptoms of fibromyalgia?

MEXICO CITY, October 13 (EL UNIVERSAL).- All people are exposed to the same conditions in situations that can affect our health. Some are genetic, others due to the context in which we are born and raised, the time we eat and the lifestyle we lead, in addition to exposure to infections.

It is for this reason that some diseases that affect people are more common than others, occur in certain age groups or can be suffered by members of the same family.

What is fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a chronic disease characterized by the presence of skeletal muscle pain, usually associated with other symptoms such as depression, fatigue, sleep disorders, among others, according to a report published by the Colombian Journal of Rheumatology.

From the University of Chile they indicate that fibromyalgia is a disease little understood until now, so, despite being recognized as a public health problem, it is still a disease about which there is considerable ignorance. Regarding this health problem, it states that its main symptom is generalized and persistent pain, and adds digestive, urinary and mood disorders as other symptoms.

Regarding the cause of this health problem, the National Institutes of Health (United States) assure that the exact cause of fibromyalgia is not known, although they warn that it can be hereditary, so genetics can also play a role. Other factors may also be involved, such as having certain diseases that cause pain, they say.

Regarding treatment when diagnosed with fibromyalgia, health experts indicate that this disease still has no cure at present, so efforts are focused on relieving the pain of people who suffer from it. In addition to certain medications, physiotherapy and therapeutic exercise are the most recommended to treat the symptoms of fibromyalgia, according to the Professional College of Physiotherapists of Castilla – La Mancha (Spain).
