An apartment in Bern caught fire on Sunday night. The building had to be evacuated. Nobody was injured. One apartment is currently no longer habitable. Investigations into the cause of the fire and the amount of property damage are ongoing.
On Sunday, October 13, 2024, shortly after 2:50 a.m., a fire in an apartment on Weberstrasse in Bern was reported to the Bern cantonal police.
When emergency services arrived on site, a fire had broken out in an apartment in a block of flats and heavy smoke was visible. The members of the Bern Protection and Rescue professional fire department immediately went into the building and began extinguishing the fire. The fire was quickly extinguished. A fire watch was set up following the extinguishing work.
Six residents were evacuated. No one was injured; four people were checked on site by an ambulance team as a precaution.
One apartment is currently no longer habitable. Alternative accommodation was organized for one person. Weissensteinstrasse between Schwarzenburgstrasse and Pestalozzistrasse, as well as Weberstrasse at number 10 up to Weissensteinstrasse had to be closed for the duration of the extinguishing work.
The Bern cantonal police have begun investigations into the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage.
