Mitskoski: There are more Bulgarians in Albania than in Macedonia – 2024-10-13 08:49:00

Macedonian Prime Minister Hristiyan Mitskoski said that there are more Bulgarians in Albania than in North Macedonia, BGNES reported.

He reacted to the statement of the Albanian party Democratic Union for Integration /DSI/ that “the Bulgarian community in North Macedonia is a reality and should be included in the Constitution”.

“Several hundred citizens use the Bulgarian language as their mother tongue, and we cannot say that they do not exist. There are seven to eight times more Bulgarians in Albania than in Macedonia. This is also a reality. We cannot say that they are not a reality, Mackoski said at a press conference.

“But the Macedonian community in Bulgaria is also a reality. If we are now talking about including the Bulgarians in the Constitution, then we must talk and see what rights the Macedonian community has in Bulgaria and compare the reality of the Bulgarian community here and the Macedonian community in Bulgaria. Then we can draw real conclusions,” he pointed out.

At the last population census in Albania, it became clear that there are 7,057 Bulgarians in the country – 3,691 men and 3,366 women. 2,281 people identify themselves as Macedonians.

The results of the census caused severe upheaval in North Macedonia and fueled the propaganda machine against Bulgaria.
