According to the UN, two peacekeepers were again wounded in Lebanon. The soldiers of the Unifil observer mission were injured when two explosions occurred near an observation post at the headquarters in Nakura on Friday morning, Unifil said.
The Israeli army confirmed the incident and expressed its deepest regret. The matter will be thoroughly investigated at the highest level of command, the armed forces said. At the same time, they emphasized that the terrorist militia Hezbollah operates in the immediate vicinity of blue helmet positions and thus puts them in considerable danger.
Bulldozer causes walls to collapse
In addition, according to Unifil, several protective walls at a UN post near Labbune, not far from the Lebanese-Israeli border, collapsed when an Israeli military bulldozer hit them and Israeli tanks approached the post.
This is a “serious development,” says Unifil. Any deliberate attack on peacekeepers constitutes a serious violation of international humanitarian law and UN Resolution 1701.
According to the UN, Israeli troops had already shelled the Unifil headquarters on Thursday, injuring at least two UN soldiers. Israel’s military accused Hezbollah of using areas near Blue Helmet mission bases for its own purposes, such as placing rockets in private homes.
