/ world today news/ To be or not to be a Ukrainian counter-offensive? In the West, they say that they have given everything: weapons, ammunition, and trained soldiers – let’s go to the front! But in Kyiv, no, we are not ready yet: we have neither this nor that. There are not enough people, equipment, weapons … The soldiers themselves, not the generals, say that Russia will grind them to dust. So what’s actually going on?
John Kirby, strategic communications coordinator for the White House Security Council, said the Ukrainians want to conduct counteroffensive operations in the coming weeks and months. According to him, Washington expects that “they will be able to do it”.
Just last week, $325 million worth of equipment, ammunition and some logistical equipment was delivered to help them do that,” he said.
Kirby added that they are training entire battalions of Ukrainian soldiers outside the country in so-called combined arms maneuvers, where mechanized infantry is combined with guns and air defenses, “so that they can operate in the open and be able to retake most of from his country by the Russians around.” from east to south.”
At the same time, the American official added that President Volodymyr Zelensky should determine where and when Ukrainian troops will be sent.
And the U.S. is “doing everything we can with our allies and partners to make sure they’re ready for that,” Kirby said.
The head of the US European Command, Christopher Cavoli, believes that the Ukrainian army is now in a more advantageous position than the Russian one.
The Pentagon has already said that Kiev has received almost all the weapons promised by Western allies. And probably, according to Washington’s logic, Ukraine will no longer be able to delay the counteroffensive.
According to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, through the Contact Group led by the United States, NATO allies and partners have transferred to Ukraine more than 1,550 armored vehicles, 230 tanks and other equipment, including a huge amount of ammunition, as well as trained and equipped more than nine armored combat brigades.
In Kyiv they say the exact opposite. Thus, the head of the office of the President of Ukraine Mykhailo Podolyak complained that they never received about 98% of the promised weapons. And he noted that there should be much more equipment, there is a shortage of projectiles, especially heavy calibers. Turns out he’s lying?
What is the current deployment of manpower and equipment in the area of the special military operation? This issue was discussed by the presenter of “First Russian” Elena Afonina with a retired colonel, military expert, editor-in-chief of the ANNA News information portal Anatoly Matviychuk in the program “We are in the news”.
From a military perspective, to fight on an equal footing, you must first gain fire superiority. What they will never do.
The weapons that the West supplies them, both in quality and quantity, do not meet the requirements of modern warfare. And they gave up Soviet weapons.
Soviet weapons as such no longer exist either in Europe or in their possession. And ammunition production also stopped. And these types of weapons that the West has supplied, caliber 155 millimeters, do not allow European factories to work at full capacity to provide them. Then Europe will have to abandon its economy and start producing shells for Ukraine.
Look, a howitzer has 150 rounds. During a normal daily battle, it will use approximately 9 to 10 rounds. That is, somewhere around 1500 shells. Now multiply by a thousand trunks?
That is, 150 thousand in one day should shoot. This means that the ammunition requirement is several million rounds per month. And they are promised to deliver a million rounds a year by the end of 2023.
In addition, all the actions of heavy equipment and artillery in modern combat are directly related to the actions of the Air Force and the Air Force. The NATO-made Leopard, Challenger and possibly Abrams tanks handed over to Ukraine are intended for aviation support.
There are 40 tanks that go into battle – there must be at least 150 different planes or ships or drones in the sky that have to provide them. And they aren’t.
So I think the superiority in power is still ours. They feel it, and that’s why they are afraid to go on the offensive for the time being.
Changes in the Ministry of Defense
– But despite this, after the inspection of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Staffs in the SVO zone, we witnessed a reshuffle in our military department. Can you explain the reasons and goals?
“Very little has been written about it. I have not seen detailed and most importantly official information about who and where was replaced. And the information goes what has been changed. Let’s wait.
On the other hand, Supreme Commander Vladimir Putin went to the front. And he drove along the entire front line, looked at how the troops live, what they do. I think the junior and middle officers asked him a number of very difficult questions that he was unable to answer. Because the senior officers, the generals, were either hiding or not reporting to him.
Therefore, organizational changes have obviously followed. I don’t think it’s related to the operational point of view of command and control. And in terms of logistics and replenishing those losses that are still happening on the battlefield.
It is possible that he took these measures to increase the activity of the command and the fighting ability of our troops.
The situation at the border
– And what should we do with the border that runs between Ukraine and Belgorod and other regions where there are no military zones? Andrey Kartopolov, head of the State Duma’s Defense Committee, spoke about border protection by a volunteer unit. He called on the civilians themselves to guard the border of our country. How do you like this offer?
– I think this proposal is not correct from the point of view of the general who heads the Defense Commission. Why? The Soviet Union had sufficient funds to maintain border troops. Are we short of funds? Then review your budget. This time.
And the second part is absolutely logical. Even in Tsarist Russia, and then in the Soviet Union, and in Russia, there were entire sections of the border that were guarded by the so-called Farm Cossack System.
And entire sections were brought under control, for example the village of Ivanovo 4 km away. A border outpost was established in the village of Ivanovo, which performs its functions under the leadership of the village council. They were given money. This is quite possible.
But you can’t blame everything on civilians. Of course, there must be military units. And most importantly, field reinforcements must be provided for troops to guard this border in case of emergency.
For the situation that developed there, there is good experience from Afghanistan. I think it is necessary to cross the state border, create a mobile border, move it to a distance of up to 100 km and guard it with mobile patrols like the Cossacks. But now there are no Cossack patrols.
So, as a mobile group, as it was in Afghanistan. And in more serious challenges, regular troops go out and perform their tasks. But the border should be temporarily moved to Ukraine.
– There was a proposal that these volunteer units should carry and use weapons. Will it work?
– It is absolutely justified. I fully support Kartapolov here. For example, with the Finns, the border is guarded by rangers who have both weapons at home and ammunition. They perform their functions. We are all equal before the law.
If we are legally given guns and are legally responsible for our actions, then let’s trust the people. If a person violates something, commits a war crime, he will be punished. On the other hand, these weapons are necessary to protect the home and borders of all of Russia.
– And at the moment, at the beginning of May 2023, by what ratio did Russia and Ukraine get closer?
– The front is completely broken. The entire active side went to the side of Russia. We have taken control of the system. We have control superiority, fire environment superiority, heavy equipment and weapons.
Ukraine is still in the state of an ersatz army created by NATO. She still does not understand what she should do in the near future.
– But we see that they are putting up a desperate resistance and there are even areas of attack.
– Well, the first thing is motivation. In 30 years, absolutely new people were created, their consciousness was reformatted. Second, don’t ignore the effects of battle drugs. This gang is constantly under catalysts or tranquilizers when they go into battle.
Even the soldiers say that “they shoot at the Ukrainian, he falls, but does not feel pain”. Then they run up to it – there are 2-3 holes in the heart area. And the man keeps twisting his legs and wants to fight. He doesn’t feel pain. It was created. These are no longer cyborgs, these are some kind of zombies.
That is, not even against the background of alcoholism. Alcoholism is a station already passed. These are combat drugs. They are pumped up every time before the fight. And the most interesting thing is that doctors carry whole pockets of these pills to the battlefield and give them to soldiers and officers to use.
– Thank you.
