Cefa’s empty plate in Piazza Maggiore in Bologna

(ANSA) – BOLOGNA, OCTOBER 12 – A plate containing a bomb is the pixel art drawing, signed by Lorenzo Mattotti, which was created in Piazza Maggiore in Bologna by Cefa with hundreds of plates to celebrate World Food Day. The aim is to shine a spotlight on the link between war and hunger. In fact, it is estimated that 60% of people suffering from acute hunger in the world live in areas affected by conflict. The “Fill the empty plate” solidarity initiative was born with a double intent: to launch a food collection to help the canteens of Bologna, and to raise funds to support Cega’s projects to fight world hunger, in particular a development project agriculture in Ethiopia, one of the most affected countries. Over 150 volunteers took turns starting at 6am to prepare the largest empty plate in the world in Piazza Maggiore in Bologna, made up of around 3000 plates which were filled thanks to 100 trolleys from associations, parishes, companies and schools in the province. . From 8am, the trolleys pushed by volunteers traveled the streets of the city, full of food for the canteens of Bologna and with donations to carry out an agricultural development project in Ethiopia. Once in the square the trolleys were emptied of the food which was placed on the plates. (HANDLE).
