The Japanese company Sanyo Trading organized an interesting exhibition of Chinese electric vehicles, where more than a dozen dismantled cars were displayed. Thanks to this, experts from the Land of the Rising Sun were able to understand the secret of why cars from the Celestial State are cheap.
Among the exhibits was the BYD Atto 3, which costs around $20,000, which is considered relatively affordable by electric car standards. Representatives from about 70 Japanese component manufacturers marveled at the number of hyper-integrated components.
Specifically, the e-axle electric drive consists of eight components, including a motor, inverter, gearboxcharger and AC converter. This allows not only to reduce costs, but also the weight of the finished car.
“I was surprised at how few parts BYD electric cars have. We want to use the knowledge gained by the Chinese to advance the electric vehicle sector,” said a representative of Nissin Precision Machines.
On the other hand, “Chinese manufacturers prioritize cost reduction as much as possible. They have a different attitude to quality than the Japanese manufacturers,” said a representative of Sanyo Trading.
