On October 12, in the fourth round of the men’s singles, Tomokazu Harimoto (21 = Tomokazu Kikaku / World No. 9) defeated Xu Yingbin (23 = China / World No. 80) with a game count of 3-0, advanced to the quarterfinals.
Harimoto advanced to the top 16 and earned the right to represent world table tennis. On the other hand, Xu is the feeder champion of Doha in 2023 WTT, and Harimoto has fought only once before, winning 3-1.
Harimoto carefully selects the balls he hits and connects with, showing a well-defined offensive and defensive style. They led from start to finish in the first two games, winning 11-7 and 11-6.
In the third game, Xu took an aggressive approach with a series of Chiquita shots, making it 8-8, but Harimoto used his backhand as strength to push through to 11-8 and win in straight sets.
In the subsequent quarterfinals, they will face the winner of Lin Kuan-ju (Taiwan) and Shah (India).
