Blue wedding dress: Jackie Alemany decided on a happy and whimsical wedding at the same time.
If you had asked one of Jackie Alemany’s friends what color their wedding dress should be, they definitely wouldn’t have said white: “I’m a little contrarian by nature,” explains Alemany, who works as an investigative reporter for the Washington Post works.
Jackie Alemany chose a colorful wedding dress
When Alemany and her future husband Jake Levine, a special assistant to President Joe Biden, planned their summer wedding in Montauk, they had only one thought on their minds: “How fun and whimsical can we make the weekend?” For Alemany, the wedding dress was a key element in realizing this vision: “The fact that I chose a colorful dress became a kind of anchor for this transporting kaleidoscope of colors that we wanted to create,” explains Alemany.

Jackie Alemany relied on her gut feeling
After trying on a few classic white dresses to appease her grandmother, Alemany felt a slight temptation to go for a more traditional bridal look: “I thought, ‘I see people getting caught up in this and choosing something… that doesn’t really suit them,'” says Alemany. Nevertheless, she stayed true to her gut feeling and continued the search for her perfect, playful dress. At some point, a friend remembered a blue wedding dress that both of them had noticed a few years earlier: “It was a completely different dress, but it was the impetus that we limited ourselves to blue,” explains Alemany.
